Which video format for import in iMovie or iDVD?

Hello!

1. A camera recorded movies as *.MOD-files in format 16:9 (1.024 x 576 pixels). When I import these movies in iMovie 10 they are recognized and displayed as 4:3 format. Is there an easy way to solve this problem?

2. Otherwise I would simply convert the movies before importing them into iMovie. Either by "MPEG Streamclip" or "iSkysoft iMedia Converter Deluxe". The question is, which file type should I use! The differences in resulting file sizes are enormous, the quality doesn't seem to differ that much. Can someone recommend one of the following types, maybe the "correct" (or most senseful) settings for this, or another format which would work better?

*.MOD (original file, 20.3 MB)

*.DV (91.4 MB)

*.mov (66.9 MB)

*.mkv (9.3 MB)

*.mp4 (9.3 MB)

*.mov (9.3 MB)

*.mpg (17.8 MB)

Thanks and best wishes,

Dietmar
