MacBook Pro slow to wake from sleep after installing SSD

I have an odd problem with my early 2011 13" MacBook Pro (2.7GHz Core i7, 8GB memory). I'm currently running Mavericks, but had the same issue under Mountain Lion.

Some months ago I replaced the original 500 GB hard drive with an SSD, a 480 GB SanDisk Extreme II. It works perfectly and the computer seems lightening fast by comparison, except in one respect: when waking from sleep mode, there is a delay of about 30 seconds before the computer comes back to life. Without going into the details of my trouble shooting path, I'm as certain as can be that the problem is associated with the SSD. In fact, I replaced the original SSD with a new one of the same make and model, and the delay persists. I've tried cloning and swapping the HD and SSD in various states, and the result is alway the same: no delay with the HD, a ~30 second delay with the SSD.

I have my computer set to require a password on waking, and the delay takes either of two forms. Either (1) there's a wait of about 30 seconds before it will accept my password, or (2) it will accept my password, but after I type and enter it there's a delay of about 30 seconds before the password screen disappears and the computer becomes usable.

At this poin, I'm about to reinstall the HD, since the snappier performance of the SSD doesn't compensate for the aggravation of waiting for it to wake up after sleep.

I'll welcome and thank you for any suggestions on a fix.

I was lucky to be able to sell my SanDisk Extreme II 480GB for a pretty good price (to a Windows PC user) and got a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB. Best decision ever. I've been enjoying an amazing performance with zero issues, so far.

Also, as a reply to Knulp:

"Our SSD's does not exhibit this behavior on any other OS or platform except MAC OSX 10.9 Mavericks."

This is simply not true. I had the exact same issue with my Extreme II on OS X 10.8.5 (as I said on my first reply to this thread) and a lot of people still have the issue on OS X 10.10, so it remains unclear if this is an OS X issue (i.e. Apple's fault) or a firmware issue (i.e. SanDisk's fault).

Had this problem with Yosemite when it launched. I installed mavericks after a couple of weeks and the problem was gone. After a few months mavericks also started to have this problem especially when I tried to wake it shortly after it went to sleep (10.9.4 was no help). Now I installed Yosemite again and the problem appeared instantly. All installations were clean. I'll do a SMC reset and see what happens.

Hello,

I have an early mbp 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.5.

I had a Samsung EVO 840 500GB ssd inside,

the wake up took maybe 3 seconds, even less.

Then I bought a Samsung EVO 850 250GB ssd with the

intention of putting it in the mbp instead of the EVO 840 and

putting the 840 in my desktop.

I cloned the 840 ssd to the 850 ssd and put it in the mbp,

and guess what, now it takes 20-30 seconds to wake up from

sleep, so maybe this issue is not just in Samsung.

I suspect this is probably some compatibility issue within

OSX and some SSD's.

Has anyone had the same experience with the EVO 850 ?

Thanks
