itunes install not installing

remove the iTunes reciept from your 'reciepts' folder in your Computer Library folder.

try:

~username/library/reciepts

or

~computername/Library/reciepts

if you have itunes on the computer then there will be a reciept file for it...

when you run the installer do you get "Install" or "Upgrade" as your option, upgrade means the installer is detecting a iTunes installation reciept somewhere on the machine.

I seem to be having a similar problem. I clicked to update to Itunes 6.0.5, it seemed to work but now whenever I open Itunes and plug my ipod mini in I get a message saying 'software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the ipod's software'.
I have done this...twice and iTunes reinstalls and my library is fine but I just keep getting that message and it is not recognising my ipod!
Can anyone help? I wish I hadn't bothered to update - it was fine before!

Do not delete those receipts. Those are used by Disk Utility when repairing permissions.

WOW Pete thanks so much for the tip I had been racking my brain for weeks on trying to get my Itunes to open again. i had tried deleting and reinstalling so many times. I was already to have it sent back to apple thinking it was defective or something. lol. well anyways thanks for the tip its working again finally
