Q: My iPhone 5 keeps going black and then pops up the power down screen.  What is wrong?

My iPhone keeps going to a black screen while I'm using it and then the power down screen pops up.  I updated the phone last night, but still having the same issue.   What can be the problem and how do I fix it?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

    Try doing a reset on your iPhone,

     

    Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.

    Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

    My phone wont turn on or anything when it isn't plugged in, but when I plug it in, it turns black then goes to the apple screen again then turns back off and repeats the same thing. I've held down the home and on/off button and nothing happens
