Do I really only have 41.71 Gigs of Storage left on my iMac

My storage in" about this mac states."

41.71 GB free out of 499.25

Audio 45.28 GB Movies 6.09 GB Photos 6.7 GB Apps 8.02GB Backups zeroKB

Other 391.46GB

Also, i deleted a lot of stuff in order to actually free up sapce, have down disk utility stuff many times, i do that because when i used to have Windows i used to defrag alot in order for it to work properly..old habits die hard.

so this other, lets say i downloaded 80GB of something...would it replace the other with downloaded data that i can see and use.

Or do I really only have 41.71 GB of space left.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), iOS 5.1

I've done no such thing because there is no Apple Store or Apple supported link for third-party software. Furthermore, I've only tried to provide you with information on what the Other is and how to find it. What you do with it is up to you.

But I assure you that any third-party software I suggest will be helpful and not damaging.

but you did give me links to what appears as non apple software that i am going to try and see if i can get it from apple apps store at itunes.

if this is not at itunes store than it is stuff from other than apple to solve an apple problem..

it's no big whoop is it?

i'm just told not to use non apple software to clean up my imac when i have apple product questions.

You won't find Mac software at iTunes Store. You may find some software at the App Store, but the links I provided are to reliable third-party sources. There will be nothing from Apple to help you. We will warn you about non-Apple software that may be dangerous to use like MacKeeper, for example. I don't recommend software lightly.

The Apple Store geniuses often are not even close to being geniuses and are rattling off stuff they have heard but know nothing about. Apple does not inform them of any products except those made by Apple. Anything else you hear from a genius is no more reliable than what you would hear in a bar discussion.

You are welcome to use my advice. You are welcome to ignore it. As you said I'm only trying to help you out.

Actually Kappy gave me links to buy non apple software.

Useing my warranty and phoning in to one of the geniuses that Kappy refers to in the following ;

The Apple Store geniuses often are not even close to being geniuses and are rattling off stuff they have heard but know nothing about

i was able to find the problem which you identified in your solution.

simple enough, don't need to buy what Kappy is flogging..

Do I really only have 41.71 Gigs of Storage left on my iMac
