Are you running Windows via Parallels or VMWare Fusion? They can lockup the optical drive.
Hi! I have the same problem in iTunes 11.1.3, don't using another program, only iTunes!
iMac
OSX 10.9
I was having the same problem—on 2 different external burners. Found online advice to make sure that all the songs are not only checked, but selected/highlighted. And it works.
Never had to do that before, but I guess I do now. A bummer to have to think of that every time. I guess there's a bug in iTunes 11.1.3 with OS 10.6.8
Me too same problem. really irritating, only solved by a total system reboot. Then can burn another disc.
OSX 10.8.5
iTunes 11.1.3
Mac Pro
Mac Pro running 10.9.1 with iTunes 11.1.3 same problem trying to burn an Audiobook to CDs. Tried rebooting and the checked/highlight fix - neither worked.
What worked for me was to insert the blank disk prior to being asked - getting the "what do you want to do with the disk" dialog - selecting "Ignore" - THEN right clicking on the playlist to burn.
Works every time for me. Still a bug that wasn't there before, but a pretty easy work around.

Thanks for this work around, Carnac. My iTunes got that bug this evening, after I put my son's USB stick into my Apple Pro. Never had that problem before.

10.6.8 | Mac Pro | iTunes 11.1.3
Did a restart - still problem.
Then, as to the good advice here
Inserted disc first - clicked ignore - still no good
Then added highlight to all songs in the playlist - bingo!
Would highlight alone have worked? That's a question for others to solve.
forkbeard the answer is no.... tried just the highlight first with no luck... only worked after highlighting all songs, inserting disc/ignore, burn playlist to disc.
This is an odd bug... although there is this workaround, it's kind of a pain to have to go thru these dorky steps to use an external burner. Not sure bout ya'll but if I burn with my internal drive on my MBP that sucker gets really hot after only a couple burns... and if it's a DVD burn it feels like it's ready to burst into flames. Hope this bug is fixed soon. Thanks gyandev & Carnac for these workarounds.
I am having this problem as well, Mac OSX 10.7.5 with an iMac running iTunes 11.1.4 - I have restarted the program, restarted the entire computer, and still nothing works.
I had this problem and it appears to be a conflict between finder and itunes.
I solved this by inserting a blank CD and choosing Itunes as the default program to launch.
After this I a had no more conflicts between programs.
Hope this helps
SOLUTION:
Simply eject the blank disc, then tell iTunes to burn the playlist before inserting the CD again. It seems once iTunes is waiting for the disc then everything goes as planned.

PS: Wasn't able to post a reply in Safari 5.0.5 Snow Leopard... Some JavaScript error. It's pity to see Apple is coming down? Are there any insiders?
