Low write speed using CIFS on 1Gbit

Hello

I am on MacOS 10.6.8 using a 1 GB LAN connection to a NetApp.

Using NFS to mount a fs we see pretty good read/write speed of about ~80MByte/sec.

On the same Netapp, using CIFS to mout a FS, we see only a write speed of 25 MByte/sec.

Knowing SMB/cifs IS slower due to more protocol overhead, but is 25meg/sec really the maximum you can get when using Cifs on a Netapp share?

Any other performance records you get using SMB/cifs on Gbit LAN?

Would using SMB2 on Mavericks increase the speed? I read some threads and there seem to be issues on some NAS as well?

thanks

Gerd
