so there is a macbook air for sale for 10$ the person selling it says it has experienced some water damage but will still run. the only issue is that the screen will not turn on. is this worth looking into? or should I forget about it?
Do not get it. A water damaged Mac may have damaged near everything, from the display (which you said it does not work) from the logic board. In the case of a MacBook Air, the cost of the repair will be the cost of a new MacBook Air, so it is worth buying a new Mac.
Also, it is dangerous to use it because you do not know what will happen if it fails
If it is 10$ and not stolen, it is very much worth it, get it
parts alone are worth a lot

Yes, that means you should get it, the SSD, the IO board, many parts are worth alone much much more than $10
I understand that. But if it still works fine except for the screen? Im not super smart when it comes to this but it seems like an easy fix no?
But you will have to replace the whole display (if the problem is not the display connector). And you do not know if the logic board will fail, and if this happens, get ready for an expensive repair. I would not buy it, but if you do it, do it at your own risk. It is your decision

Easy to fix, for me, very easy, for you, I dont know. replacement parts are expensive, even used ones.
Worst case is you make 15-20X your investment as a sale to repair people that NEED the good parts inside it.

Id buy 1000 water / juice etc damaged macbook Air at $10 each if given the chance. 😊

Sorry to threadjack, my Daughter spilled a glass of water into her 2013 13" Air. It was on & turned off immediately. Here is the carnage.

What did you do? I am in the same situation right now
We got the touchpad & it boots but does not see the keyboard and are waiting for her to be able to afford the 150.00 replacement keyboard.
Prior, I opened it up & r.emoved the water and let it sit for the week it took to get the touchpad.
