can not connect to iTunes says fatal unable to process request

I, too, created an email case. They ask that we give them 24 hours to reply. I have tweeted Tim Cook, as others suggested earlier in this thread. Someone retweeted my tweet, so between Twitter and all the discussions, it is getting out to the masses. Apple would be hard-pressed to say they are not aware of the problem at this point. Note: More than 2 million Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Linkedin, ADP, Google, and other accounts have been compromised, and some companies such as Twitter have responded by disabling the affected passwords. Not to spread rumors, but could this be part of the problem and Apple is flying low until they check things out? Just saying.

When I reported this, I got a response back from a tech who shall remain nameless.  I sent him the exact error along with other things it was doing on my devices and iTunes.  He sent me back a generic response on how to reset my supposedly forgotten password.  That got me a bit hot as I had check all the boards and this is widespread AND that he did not read the problem.  So I sent a response back and I got a message saying that this is w widespread problem that they are working on.

I have no "real" problem with them having an issue.  I have a problem with them not being truthful or taking ownership as with so many of you that have gotten solutions to clear their cache, etc.

I can't say that I know what the problem is, but in a similar environment that I've worked in, and seeing everything that people are reporting.  It seems as if the problem lies in some sort of authentication server that verifies that you have a valid itunes account and password.  (Just my speculation, nothing more).

I am glad that they are finally taking responsibility after numerous complaints.  It just sad and frustrating when they send out generic solutions and make you go through the motions that they KNOW will not work.

Anyway, hope everyone gets their devices back up and operating soon.

Tweet Tim Cook. Enough Tweets and Re-Tweets this will become an issue. If the mainstream press picks it up, it is going to be a real problem for Apple Inc, despite their new deal with China. There is a real and big problem here system wide.

Well good to know it is not an isolated problem with me. I'd never seen that error message before. I emailed support yesterday & got the "refresh you device's browsing history" response for me to clear my cookies/data & history. Of course it did not help. Beyond frustrated!!

Actually I'm quite surprised the mainstream press hasn't already picked this up... You would think this would be a headline now

Just logged a case with AppleCare - known issue since yesterday afternoon. This applies to iTune & mac App store. No ETA on when it will be up.

    Best advice, keep trying

Surprised this isn't getting more attention in the Apple blogosphere... thankfully I write for Mac|Life so I was able to do it myself:

And yes, I'm affected by this as well! :-(

Thanks so much for escalating it to broader media. It's so frustrating how (some of the richest) companies try to hide from issues, whereas it should be so simple to acknowledge and address. Transparency is key.

This worked for me thank you kareem184!

Login into you ICloud account & ITunes account through a web browser not on your IPhone or through ITunes. Verify that you can login in using your normal Apple ID. (This is step is just to verify that the Apple ID is not disabled and that you are using the correct password after trying to reset it through the default ITunes steps)

These are the links to verify.

    https://www.icloud.com/

    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

Once you have verified that everything is accurate.

Login to ITunes using your Alternate Apple ID

    Either your example@me.com or example@cloud.com

    The example@me.com worked for me.

I just tried this workaround and it did NOT work. I'm on all mac itunes environment using Mavericks OS and latest iOS.

Yeah, me too. Same problem. Can log in here but not anything like iTunes or App Store. Didn't know this was a thing. Glad it's not just me. I hate being singled out by rare problems no one will fix. But this seems rare enough not to deal with as any kind of priority.

Now I've had an unwanted password change for no reason. It forced me to add a capital letter now too. That's what I need, to have to remember yet another change in my frequently typed passwords, especially with case changes and extra characters. Yup. We're not secure if we can access our own data. With 90+ online accounts to track, I have to keep it all in a text file, which is a security risk. And even if I don't get compromised personally, it's out of my hands anyway. Servers are getting compromised all year long. Out of 90+ accounts, I've gotten many notifications this year alone from major companies apologizing for breached security and "please change your password, and also change it anywhere else you use the same credentials, and always use different credentials on all accounts" because 90+ different accounts should all be entirely different... We shouldn't be able to access data that crackers can eventually access in bulk.

Anyone else noticing a fundamental defect with this online system of ours?

Cannot agree more. I've been scouring the internet trying to find info on this and thought I was losing my mind. I reset my password multiple times due to the error. Now I know it is widespread and not just me!

I'm having same problem as everyone here. Frustrating to say the least.

Curious: am I the only one here still on iOS 6? Are you all on iOS 7? It would be particularly offensive if this was something that only non-iOS 7 users are suffering. I hate iOS 7. I won't be "upgrading" my iPhone but I'll have to suffer it on a new iPad ill be getting soon.

  • BerlinFlorian Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Jace, no... it's also affecting iOS 7.
