Unable to monitor recording, or record while monitoring M-Audio Fast Track

The issue

I have just bought Logic Express 7 which I was hoping to use with my M-Audio Fast Track USB device. It works fine in GarageBand, so I know it is functional. And I can record with it into LE7, but I cant hear it while doing so, or anything else.

The only way to record is to have the audio drivers set to Fast Track, yet then there is no way to hear anything, as no signal returns to the Fast Track headphone output.

I have no problem monitoring tracks generated out of the loop browser, or even recorded blindly( Deafly ?) but only if I have the audio drivers set to IMic, which means that I can neither hear, nor record from the Fast Track USB device

Here is an earlier thread from someone using a different device, but with the same issue. He was not given a solution. I tried the suggestions offered, but to no avail.

Can anyone help me out ??

---------------------------------------------

I am able to record audio using my M-audio mic, but to hear play back I have to switch the drivers to "built-in audio". Any idea's how to fix this problem?

go to Applications>utilities>Audio Midi Setup(AMS)

there select the m-audio as your default output/system output device, and Properties for ...too.

Does firewire solo have a control panel?i mean an application where you can set your main output?
if yes, check if you have it correctly set

Thanks. I changed the settings for both input/output to Firewire solo device.
Remember everything works fine in Garage Band, but for some reason not in Logic. The meters and levels show that it is picking up the mic and records it, but to listen to it back, I have to switch the audio driver to built-in, in order to actually hear playback. But it is recording. Strange. Someone had mentioned that Garage Band uses a different BUS setting. Could that be it?

do you have the correct output selected on the channel strip of the audio track you are recording?

Under I/O is input and Output.

Hi Water,
welcome to the forum!
when you record with the M-Audio, you have to choose Audio menu>audio hardware & drivers>driver>Fast Track, Ok, this part you already did, you should monitor from the M-Audio, booth for speakers or headphones, for that you have to select the Software Monitoring box that you find in the same drivers window below. Also check the Mix (input/playback volume control) and output knobs on M-Audio Fast Track, you have to you have to increase them to ear anything! :o)
Sorry, you probably know that, but sometimes, you 're so focused on something else like recording that don't pay attention to other stuff around.
This one, never happened to me, but it happened to a couple of friends already! :o)
I hope any of these helps you to solve it.
Best Regards,

Jorge
