Help? Migration Assistant problems w MacBook Air OS X

I have MacBook Air w OS X 10.9 to migrate to a new MacBook Air with OS X 10.8.5. Both computers are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The computers do not recognize each other. It must be a setting in the new Air because it got further at store when the Apple rep showed me how to do this using the demo computer. Ideas?
