HELP!!!!!!! No trackpad or mouse on Macbook

Husband picked up his computer, brought it to me on the couch along with the mouse. I started working on a document -- really crucial one, as it happens -- but within a split second had no mouse and no trackpad.

Have tried rebooting, but that didn't work and I can't even figure out how to get to the mouse settings without a cursor. I can't access a single pulldown menu so I can't even remember for sure but I think he's running OS 10.6.8 on a MacBook 2011.

Please please help -- this is his work computer and he's going to freak out when he comes home and discovers this.
