.m4p vs. .m4a

Starting with a recent ios upgrade on my iPad, I can no longer play MANY of the songs from my music library. Doesn't seem to matter if they are m4p or m4a... Anyone know what's going on and what I need to do to listen to the music on my iPad? All songs seem to play OK on my iphone and macbook Air. Just the ipad I am having issues with.

Help.

Hey there birand68,

It sounds like these songs that work on other devices do not playback on this iPad. I have a few recommendations for you here. First close all the apps that are running in the background:

iOS: Force an app to close

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the phone and try again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:
