Q: IOS7 update: Invalid account for this email address message - help!

Simplistic, but I have had the same apple ID since 2002. Now updating my iPhone 4S to IOS7, asked for my apple ID and password to verify the address and am told it is "an invalid account for this email address"! I can't use my phone! Help!
