I purchased a few iBooks as a gift for a sick friend. I purchased them on my computer using my iTunes account. When we plug his iPad in to sync the ibooks across, we are unable to. My friend's iPad is synced with his own Mac and iTunes account, so when I try and plug it in and sync with my own mac and iTunes, it asks me to first restore the iPad.

Is there anyway I can 'gift' these iBook purchases to my friend and his iPad/iTunes account? I have no intention of reading them myself or otherwise using them in anyway. They were simply a gift, and now I have no idea how to actually give them to my friend.

Many thanks.

You can't currently gift ibooks, and anything that you buy on your account will be tied to your account - items can't be transferred to another iTunes account (this is how you would normally gift content : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2736).

An iPad is designed to only be synced to one computer at a time. If you authorise your account on his computer's iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer) then you can copy them over to his computer and into his iTunes library (File > Add To Library) and he can try sycning them to his iPad - but the books will remain tied to your account and your account will need to remain authorised on his computer's iTunes.
