Home and Power Button not working after battery change

I changed the battery on my iPhone 5 tonight (it was shockingly bad compared to another iPhone5 on the household)

I've changed them before on older iPhones and never had an issue; used a kit (suction etc) and all went smoothly, or so I thought.

When I connected everything back up the phone wouldnt power on using the power button; assumed it needed charge so plugged it in; the phone then powered up but asked to be connected to iTunes.

iTunes complained that the phone was in recovery mode and would have to be restored; did that, and after the reboot exactly the same (connect to iTunes etc etc).

If I get it restored/setup it works but neither the physical home or power buttons work!

It seems like I've caught something/shorted something for it to be continually entering recovery mode and for the buttons to no longer work.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm nowhere near an Apple store but if it comes to it I'll have to make the journey.

Thanks

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

I hope your phone was already out of warranty, because if not, you have in all likelyhood voided the warranty. With that being the case, you can always try taking it apart again and examine the home and power buttons and related cables and connections. If you are lucky, it might be something as simple as a loose or disconnected connector. Or it might be a pinched cable that you might be able to repair. But in either case, your only other alternative is to look online for some outfit that might do a repair, because it isn't likely that you will be able to get it done by Apple. Even if you just took it in and say "It doesn't work" and not mention that you took it apart as some might suggest. They will be able to tell when they took a look at it that it had been opened and you would be charged a repair fee that would be about the equivalent of a new phone.

Hi stehodgesd

Please let us know if you were able to overcome this problem. I got exactly the same issues after replacing the battery the power and home buttons won't work even though there is no apparent damage done to the buttons or circuits surounding them. In the meantime in order to be able to use the phone I've enabled the Assistive Touch from General/Accessibility so I do have a power button on my touch screen.

However if I get the phone in lock mode I won't be able to wake it up unless I connect it to the computer/power outlet or use the headsets to activate Siri.

Alex0478 Did you manage to solve your problem? I have the exact same problem. I have recently had both home screen button and lock buttons changed by a competent installer. He said to me that there is no fault with my exiting buttons and the problem is actually the mainboard/motherboard of the phone. Did you find this to be your answer to your problems too?

Am i correct in saying that if a motherboard needs replacing on an iPhone 5, its better off getting a new phone due to costs of replacement etc?
