Why won't my HP printer work on my MacBook Pro? Help!

I have been trying to get my scanner to work on my HP Photosmart 4385 All-in-one printer but it hasn't worked for a while. I googled some possible answers and found that apple has updated software (HP installer) with the drivers for my version of I OS x 10.6+ operating system. I downloaded the software, installed in - following the directions provided. When I try to print from word, it says in can't find my printer. I have a wireless connection, and I also have a cable. I went into Preferences, clicked on printer/fax, and I can see my printer there. I clicked on it and asked it to open my scanner software, but it says it cannot locate my printer - but I see it listed. Can anyone help or give advice?

After you installed the drivers did you repair permissions and restarted your computer?

Hi JeanP123,

I'm sorry that you are having problems printing to your Photosmart C4385.

I have included the link to your full feature software and drivers. I have also included a document with the steps to install the printer on your network. If you don't want to use your wireless network I have also included the document on how to install the printer with a USB cable connection.

You also indicated that the printer wasn't responding to your print job requests. I have included a document with detailed trouble shooting steps to take when jobs are stuck in the print queue. It has a section dedicated to Mac OS X 10.6.

I download the only driver on the hp page site which is an update but my computer can't even see the printer and i cannot add it, also the instructions on the hp site are confusing and unpractical I don't have an usb cable im on holidays.
