My microphone works just fine when using the phone or recording videos on the camera. But when I try to record a video through Instagram or Snapchat, and try to make a call on Skype, my mic does not work. I've gone to Privacy > Microphone, but there are no apps listed to allow access to the mic.

When I talk on snap chat the sound actually lowers and when I don't talk while recording I only hear static it's like it's muffled and I've taken the otter box off and everything I've contacted apple support and snap chat support snap never even replied to me and apple said it wasn't their problem any other ideas anyone?

I'm currently dealing with the same thing. I did all of the restarts, deleted the app and re-down loaded the Snapchat app again. I even did the reset for my phone and cleaned the speaker just in case there was something covering it. I just bought the iPhone 7 plus and it was fine for a week or so and then all of a sudden the microphone stopped working. This only occurs when I use Snapchat. Non of the suggestions above have helped. When I take a video through my phone/camera widget it's perfectly fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem on my iPhone 7. When I record video with the stock camera app the mic works perfect, however when I record with Snapchat, or send a voice memo in WhatsApp the mic gets really distorted and the volume is very low.
Seems like there is no answer to this problem..?
No, I gave up. My guess is that it has something to do with the app, not the phone. I was going to do the full factory reset but I don't want to lose all of my contacts and pictures. I don't use the app enough, so I don't care. I heard Snapchat as a company is losing a lot of money anyways and will eventually no longer be in use.
Actually I’ve replaced my phone for free it was under warranty, I suggest you do the same...., go to your nearest apple store and explain the problem, they told me here(Saudi Arabia) that this issue is common in iPhone 7 users nowadays.... hope this helped (:

The problem seems to be the following: "I've gone to Privacy > Microphone, but there are no apps listed to allow access to the mic" which causes the microphone not to function in non-native apps.
Could you restart the iPhone and see whether the list of apps appears under the Privacy > Microphone settings? Also, if that doesn't work, resinstall eitehr Skype, Snapchat, or Instagaram and see whether their app entries would appear.
Neither have worked. I've turned off my phone, and even reset it (turned off while holding lock and home button). I deleted the apps and redownloaded them. Then attempted to make a video again and the request for the app to access the microphone still does not show up in my privacy settings.
I figured it out. You need to go to Restrictions > Microphone > Allow Changes. Then when you try to use Skype it will then ask if you would like to change access to microphone. Or you could temporarily disable restrictions altogether.

I've had this problem for the last week, what I did was get a pin and clean out the mic at the bottom of the phone and then it started working fine again
