Main Screen is Gray At Bottom...Missing Icons

I have an iPhone 4S and am using the latest opertating system. The issue is that the bottom of my main screen is grayed out and my 4 main icons are missing...phone, safari, etc. I can only make a call by using voice activation through Siri. It is only grayed out on the icon screens and not when using another applicaton. Help....

Were the icons just removed from the dock? You could try putting them back.

You could also try restoring the iPhone.

Not from the Dock, but from the display, or home page. I don't know how to get them back. Before, when I opened an App, the icon automatically was available from the home screen.

I would rather not to restore the iPhone, so everything dissapears from it.
