Q: Drag and Drop Files Onto Seagate External Hardrive

I can't seem to just drag and drop files I want to store on an external hardrive with Seagate. I hate that. I just want a simple drag and drop so I can free up some space on my computer.  Can someone please explain how to just drag and drop files? I have zero idea, and they don't make it simple to understand.

please explain it to me (without use of computer terminology or telling me places I should go on my computer that I don't know what they are. Renders your help useless, and it's frustrating because no matter how many times I ask this, you just give me help i can't understand anyway.)

If possible, use step by step instructions, if you need to tell me to go somewhere on my computer, tell me where that is too so I know where to go. Don't be vague, I can't understand vague instructions when i read them.

    hello waughwoolf

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING

I too spent hours trying to simply copy photos from my Mac to the Seagate external HD

Finally I came across your post

I did exactly what you suggested

    downloaded the Paragon Driver

    and...wallah!...it is working!

at this very moment I am copying over 88GB of photos to the HD, hoping to then delete them from my Mac to free up hard drive space.

    thanks for nothing Seagate

PS...I have never signed up or commented on any forum ever...this is how happy I am about waughwoolf's post

I could kiss you!  Thank you so much, I was at the point of taking the bloody thing back to the store.  Could they have made it more non-intuitive?

Thanks for this useful detailed reply. It's unfortunate that Seagate market it as "for PC and Mac" as this implies it works out of the box with either OS. It was helpful to get your confirmation that it's just a case of using Disk Utility to erase the drive and set it up for the Mac. It really did just take a few minutes. Thanks again

Thank you!  I had spent hours attempting to resolve this issue...despite being assured by the salesman that this item was a easy as pie to install on my mac and then use.  Fortunate to have found this conversation and resolution.

I just purchased the Seagate External BackUp Drive and had the same experiences mentioned in this long post.  No way to get help from the Seagate web site, no response to a request for email/call response.  No manual to assist me when all I purchased it for was to backup movies from my iMac hard drive to the external hard drive.  I can then remove the older sci-fi collections I don't want to watch now but maybe later (I retired and plan to catch up on all my favorites).  But I did not want to fill up the iMac hard drive.  Put on external and return when I am ready to watch.

Your drop and drag WORKS GREAT!  After several days of trying to understand the dang dash board (I don't want to backup to a Microsoft cloud), I just dragged two of the collections to the Seagate external and can now remove them from my iMac (I double checked and I could read them perfectly on the Seagate external just as they were on my iMac.

I can now sleep good tonight.

I have a MacBook Pro.  I had no clue what to do.  I purchased a Seagate Backup Slim Plus 1TB.  I had to go to the APPLE store to get my computer fixed and it was an internal cable that slowed my computer and eventually left me with a "?" blinking folder.  Problem solved and it was covered under a special program.   BUT, they showed me quickly how to BACKUP my system with the Seagate Slim Plus.  Here's how:

Plugged in the USB.  Move the mouse/pointer on the top dashboard the TimeMachine appeared.  Click it on .  Click the lock on the lower left hand side and type in your password.  Then you will see ON/OFF Button.  Click "ON" for the Time Machine.  Click "Select Disk".  Click Seagate Backup Plus Slim drive and start.

If you don't see the Time Machine on the dashboard above.  Go to "search" on the dashboard at the top.  Type in Time Machine.  When it asks set up Time Machine, click OK.  Then plug hard drive into the computer.  Select hard drive then backup now.  I didn't need a updated driver or to drag and drop files.  Just set it up before you go to bed and it will automate itself.  I had a lot of files.
