Q: how can i boost the wireless signal of my airport extreme (2011)

I tried the airport express--not much help--even tried 2 of them.  The signal just won't reach the ends of my ranch style house.  Tried a Netgear WiFi Range Extender--much the same as the airport express.  Does the current airport extreme extend farther than the 2011 airport extreme aided by airpot express?

    What you need is an amplifying device, not another access point. The latter don't have much range, and that range will be attenuated by any walls, doors, or windows in the signal path. Visit Quickertek.com for such devices. Be prepared. They are expensive. But they can amplify the 50 mw signal of the typical wireless device up to several watta.

    "Boosting" a wireless signal is a commonly expressed desire, but it is not a practical solution to limited range. The current production Extreme has been reported to have greater range due to design improvements, but the difference is not likely to be sufficient for your needs.

     

    The best way to effectively enlarge one's wireless service area is to install additional access points in a roaming configuration. For you that means connecting one or more Expresses to your Extreme with an Ethernet cable. Read: Wi-Fi base stations: Setting up and configuring a roaming network (802.11 a/b/g/n)

     

    The screenshots are outdated but the concept has not changed.
