Logic 8 won't open in 10.8.5

I've just acquired a new Mac Book Pro (Retina Quad 2.6 i7 w 8GB of RAM). Installed my already-owned version of Logic Studio (w Logic Pro 8) using Pacifist, by:

- creating Disk Images of installer DVD and 3 Audio Content DVDs (Disk Utility failed to create DMGs of Jam Pack DVDs)

- opening Pacifist, selecting main .mpkg and clicking the install button

- watching while Pacifist extracted files, inserting Jam Pack DVDs when asked

At no point was I asked where I wanted to save any content, nor was I asked for serial no. Slightly surprising.

Have had a quick look for files and many seem to be there. Logic, Mainstage, Node, and Waveburner are in the applications folder. There's a folder at Library/Application Support/Logic but it's empty. When I do a spotlight search there's loads of content files everywhere, I assume in the right places...

Anyway, when I click the Logic app icon it starts to launch, but I almost immediately get a "Logic Pro quit unexpectedly" message. Waveburner asked me for a serial number and name (which I entered), then did the same thing. Mainstage crashed on the "enter your details" popup.

Any ideas? I'm assuming it's either that Pacifist didn't install it correctly, or else there's some oustanding incompatibility issue I can't find.

In case it's relevant I've tried it with and without my iLok 1 inserted. Same result either way.

Here's hoping you can help...
