When does the GPS work?

When does the GPS work on the Ipad Air? ... do you have to be logged in to a WiFi or Data account ... or wlll the GPS work in the middle of nowhere?

Only iPads with cellular radios have a GPS chip.

WiFi only models do not have a GPS chip at all.


If the iPad has a GPS chip, it will work anywhere.

Depending on the app you may not have access to map data.

Some dedicated map apps such as copilot download the map data and have it available without a data connection.

Apps like Google require a data connection to download map data.
