Once I used time machine to backup my mac, can I upload those files to to my imac?

I have an older MacBook and I am cleaning it up prior to handing it down, I backed up all the files onto a new hard drive using Time Machine.

How do I upload some (not all) of these files unto my iMac?

MacBook, transfer to iMac

As you created the backup with another Mac, use Migration Assistant to transfer files > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html It will create a new user with the transferred data, and Migration Assistant will let you choose what you want to transfer.

To combine both user accounts > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472 You must be using the same OS X version or higher on the iMac
