When I'm using VLC to watch mkv files, it works perfect when viewing it on the macbook. However, when I'm watching it while using Apple TV, the sound won't be hearing from the TV. Even if conecting the macbook directly to the TV with HDMI cable, no sounds. Any thoughts? any other player?

I have found that after you have connected to the TV by cable, quiting and restarting VLC usually restores the sound.
Thats the nature of Russian MKV
I presume but hope you arent watching illegal torrent movies, since 99.9% of MKV movie files are illegal torrent movies.
If so, no help will be rendered. 😊
It is a video of my friends wedding (btw- he is Russian) that was sent by torrent. But, He can always send me the original DVD by a snail mail...
