problem connecting belkin n600 db to imac27 maverick

Hello!

I've just bought a new Imac27 with maverick, and I found a strange problem connecting it to my Wi-Fi: I'm using a router Belkin N600 db since a couple of year with ipad2 and Iphone 4gs with no problem while the imac see the wan (i'm able to read and copy files from WD mybook live), but I cannot enter in internet!

Does anybody faced this problem, what I can check / set to allow also Imac browse internet?

tnks for any help

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Yes I did it but it didn't help, in different forums I found that this seems a problem related to Maverick, also Belkin declare the router software suitable up to mountain lion....also because the router itself has a couple of years...Belkin did not add anything since then, also firmawere is updated to the latest that is july 2012.

Another strange fact: I installed the belkin software: it does not start automatically (it should) so checking in privacy setting I found that the panel ask to allow the program but the icon is gray so I can't allow anything...how to solve this problem? Maybe here is the "trap" where I'm stucked in....

Sorry Morgan, I do not know how to change the channel of my router: in the configuration page there is no link about the channel setting, where I have to go to set channel 10? I am a beginner with the Mac world I've just checked in the airport Network setting I'm not able to find anything about channel setting...

about the network I'm quite sure which one is mine among the proposal given.....

One last thing I've tried both 2,5 Ghz and 5 Ghz but no one of the two allow me to go into the internet connection...

You need to read the router's owners manual to learn how to make changes on it, if you don't have it available give Belkin's customer support a call. Changing a router's settings is normally fairly easy, I found the following after less than a minute of Google searches:

Home network routers are designed to use a default IP address when first powered on. This local network address, sometimes called the default gateway, can be used to connect and log into the router as an administrator.

Answer: The default IP address of Belkin routers is 192.168.2.1. Note that this address applies only on the local network. The Belkin router will obtain another, public IP address when connecting to the Internet.

Thank you but this is not my problem, i'm used to log in my router settings to administer it, the problem is that Morgan suggested me to change "Channel" and nowhere in the setting page is possible to change the channel, neither I can find this kind of setting in the airport connection page in the Mac.

Ip is not the problem....I need only to allow the Mac to reach internet passing through the router........

Ok, maybe this time I got the right link to click to answer properly..this is my first time, so sorry for the confusion.

By the way, considering that all the other apple devices like Ipad2. iphone 4 gs, powerbook Ppc have no problem to connect and go in the web as well as various Pc Win, I really think that the problem is related to maverick and not to the router, anyway i'll contact Belkinn and let you know if they found a way to solve this problem.

Thank you

I have seen similar statements by users with Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion over the past 7 years I have been involved in these forums. Each time the the issue wasn't with OS X but with a setting somewhere. Search these forums and you will see what I mean.

Finally I found where to set the channel!!

i really cannot understand why I was not able to see it....

Now entering there I found that for 5ghz the channel setting was "auto" ....manually I can set one of these ones:

36

40

44

48

Does anybody know which one is the best for connecting to Imac late 13 with Maverick?

I do not want to make a mess with all the other devices making blind test.....

I rather prefer using 5 Ghz also because is the channel where I set WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK

Thanks for any help!!!

Hi, thank you for your suggestion, I found iStumbler and successfully installed: no other 5 ghz wi-fi near me, so no one near to me was using channel 40 (automatic set by router). I've changed manually and tried one by one, still I can't enter in Internet.... What it surprise me is that my Ipad2 was able to enter in internet in all of them!

So in the end, with my Imac I am able to see my private net, read and copy all the file in my lan disk but no enter in internet, while with my Ipad I can do everything....what it might be? I know that the imac has a new wi-fi port that can run up to "ac" standard, while my belkin reach "n" only...could it be this? How to fix?

I agree that probably is just a stupid setting, but I do not know how to fix it.

Unfortunately I cannot contact belkinn because in the support I do not find e-mail address to write to, I am really disappointed! If anybody has idea, please let me know, I'll try all of them!

Thank you rkaufmann87, I followed the articol suggestion, but apparently the result where not much different from the one got with Istumbler: at first the diagnostic suggested me to swap to channel 36 ( it recognize me on channel 40); I did it but still I did not succeded to go into internet, therefore I tried again and the diagnostic suggested me to come back to 40....

Anyway today I decided to do last tentative before going to buy new router: I "reset" the router to fabriq setting, then I insert once again all the details I had and now....my Mac works!!!!! I really do not know what was the problem, but in the end it disapperad.

So thank you very much for your support, this problem has been solved.

Good bye
