*.dmg input to iMovie 9 missing sound

Home made wedding video DVD was converted to *.dmg using Disk Utility. iMovie 9.0.9 inputs the result and the video is fine but the sound is missing. Is there a step in the conversion process I am omitting? PFL

Download Handbrake (google it).

Insert the wedding DVD. The DVD player will come up, but quit it.

Open handbrake. Choose one of the presets (it's been a while since I've used it but you should be able to figure it out). Click start, or go, or whatever to get it going. When it's done you should have an MP4 file that you can import into iMovie.
