how do I delete all photos from iPhone 5 iOS7 - I do not want to upload them to my computer

iPhone 5 iOS 7 on a Mac

I need to delete all photos from my iPhone, I am running out of space and have over a 1000 pictures. My pictures are backed up through DropBox, so I do NOT want to import them to my computer. Every advice I have seen only either work with previous iOS or it requires me to upload all my photos to my computer and then I will be prompted to delete all photos. I don't understand why I cannot just delete all at once.

I tried to delete via moments view, but my phone appears to be storing each day as a different moment. I have years worth of photos on my phone so deleting each moment is not an option. Is there a way to manage your photos via your cloud online or via your computer? I sync to Aperture, but that only adds the files to my computer. It doesn't let me delete photos on my phone (despite the fact that I selected this option). I am going to switch over to a camera again because this is a real hassle. We should be able to view and delete photos on any device connected to our cloud. What is the purpose of having a cloud? I can sync directly from my phone to my computer without the use of a cloud. Where are the files being stored? Shouldn't we have access to a cloud? I can access my email online, but that's about it. The iphone (all of apple's technology) is becoming increasingly less user friendly. This is especially true for itunes. I need an alternative solution for music too.

I Have tried all methods aswell all I want is to delete the photos of my phone some of my friends see how much trouble it is to sort out your music or photos and say they will never change to apple. I am starting to think I wish I had never bought eleven different devices from iPads to 5k Mac was going to pre order apple watch after apples big online event last night but even if you try that at the apple watch shop there is no option to pre order that I can find, it's obvious they have forgot about who pays them there wages APPLE please listen to your subjects and give them what they want the power to control there own media or your loosing me as a customer. GET IT SORTED OUT

To delete photos from iPhone permanently, you need to use a professional iPhone data eraser application. To save your time to look for a suitable tool by trial and error, you can read this use guide about how to delete photos on iPhone permanently, and try my recommendation a iPhone data eraser tool, which is a quicker and easier contact erasing process on all iPhone models at once.

Here the solution that worked for me: (i use a spanish version, so the names of the screen positions may not be exactly as i describe it)

I own a iPhone 4 and a iPad 3 with IOS 7 and 8 respectively.

  1. In Photos app, view "Moments".

a view showing fotos by location, i.e. cities, etc

  2. At top right, push "Selection"

Now one could select any single foto and delete it, but..

  3. now the header on each of the location group (Moment) changes from Share (Compartir) to Select.
  4. Push any number of these selectable groups and
  5. Delete it

This way i could delete thousands of fotos in iPhone and iPad in minutes.

A lot of the suggestions in this thread were unavailable to me -- it turns out the problem was that I had enabled the iCloud Photo Library (Beta), which was disabling a lot of the "delete" functionality.

You can turn off this functionality by going to Settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photo Library (Beta). After I turned off this option and reconnected my phone I was able to use the Image Capture app to Select All and remove.

iphoto is one of the worst software to manage photos ever.

like many apple softwares.

so many problems and so not friendly user.

no common sens.

apple want you to do things their own way.

is funny since apple apparently is for creative poeple and creative people likes to do things their own best way , not the way someone told them to do.

unfortunetly lately ive been using iphoto more often during dumping my photos on computer and this program got so many issues.

as a professional phtotographer who use Capture One on everybase, dealing witch sucha a crappy software is realy nightmare... it seems like apple do things intentionally just to make users life more difficult... and no, i dont want to go and study how to use all amazing iphoto functions. i just want to fire up and do wahat i need to do in shorter period of time as possible...

I have to agree, this is utterly pants. Surely there should just be a simple way to 'select all' photos then 'delete'. Why does everything have to be so convoluted and annoying, apple is supposed to make life easier, if I wanted complicated solutions i'd stick with windows!

So is there no way at all without the use of third party apps or without connecting to a mac that you can delete all the photos in your library? I am trying to free up space in mine. Backed everything up, so can always restore in the future but my photos are taking up all the space on my iPhone.

iCloud removes/disables/eliminates all the Delete buttons in all the (redundant) photo apps on the Mac. You have to disable iCloud on your iPhone (and I think on the Mac too) to get those **** buttons back.

Here is a screen shot of the Image Capture app with the Delete button back where it should be. This button only (magically) re-appeared after I turned off iCloud on my iPhone. I originally turned it off on the Mac but that didn't make the Delete button reappear. I even rebooted and still no luck. Finally I turned it off on my iPhone then reconnected and that worked. I used Google Photos to backup to my Google account, then you can select photos by month and choose "delete from device" from within the Google Photos application. There is a secondary step where you have to open your Apple Photos application, navigate to "deleted items" and choose to permanently delete if you're trying to free up space immediately. If you're not in a hurry, the photos marked for deletion will expire after some number of days and be permanently deleted. I chose the immediate deletion (you can select-all) in deleted photos view, then restarted the iPhone to realize the reclaimed space.

I am not sure if you were able to solve your situation.

Using the built in Image Capture software (on Macs) you are able to access your mobile device (after connecting by cable), selecting your connected devices, select the files that you want to delete (or Command + A for all) then click the red delete button.

The below link details this in some more detail.
