My iphone 5 has apparently crashed. It's displaying a bright red screen. It won't turn off either. This occurred a few days after downloading io7. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you can, connect in recovery mode and restore, explained in this article:

If you can't put it into recovery mode, you should get it serviced or looked at by visiting an Apple Store next to your place or calling Apple Support:
First, reset the phone - press both the home and power buttons for up to 1 minute, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
i had the same problem of red screen looping. now i called the apple support and they helped me fabulously!

This is what you have to do..
shut off your iphone using the lock button.
Now connect the data cable to ur computer
then hold the home button of ur iphone and connect the data cable to your iphone simultaneously (YOU ARE DOING TWO THINGS TOGETHER)

Couple of pop-ups on itunes asking to restore iphone will show up.
Go ahead and click restore iphone after like 5-7 minutes your iphone will be set up to factory settings.
restore backup!
and you are done!
the reason that happened was the latest software 8.1(which i was updating to while this occured) had a glitch and it didnot download properly!
