Someone told me I need to get a airport card/ router, but apple site does not have the apple airport card anymore and I need OS X to run airport card extreme. What can I do? Please let me know if there is a way or even yet a cheaper way about going wireless?

The iMac will not work with an AirPort Card, and the Power Mac G4 does accept Airport (not extereme) you can get one on ebay for about $100 or so, the airport card should run in Mac OS 9.2. as for the iMac you can get an ethernet bridge or (because ethernet bridges are expensive) connect the imac and powermac using an ethernet cord and let the powermac share internet between the two. Hope that helps!

sorry i should have explained.. if the powermac has an airport card you can share the internet to the imac, click the apple menu (very top left) > system prefrences > sharing > click the internet tab > click start (you might get a notice, just ignore it) then hook up your imac to the powermac via ethernet
then system prefrences > network > location: automatic, show: ethernet, configure: using DHCP and you are on your way!

Plug the router into the modem, and then plug the PC and the AirPort Base Station into the router if it is wired. To connect the iMac after connecting the G4 to the AirPort Base Station, plug the Ethernet cable into both the G4 and the iMac and enable Internet connection sharing from System Preferences on the G4. If the router is wireless, you don't need the AirPort Base Station; the rest of the connection can be set up as described above.

I need help fast diagnosing my Mac Problem!

Out of nowhere yesterday my machine started to automatically shut down and go into sleep mode without me touching anything or making any settings changes. The screen goes blank. The hard drive winds down but comes back to life once I click my mouse. This is now happening every few seconds and I cannot even run diagnostics before it shuts down.

It's a PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver with 5 hole front). About a month ago I upgraded to OSX Tiger 4.7 and was running fine with no problems.

I check energy saver and made sure it was set to 'never' for the sleep selection. I disabled my hot corners but it still keeps doing it.

I even unplugged the system and vaccumed out the dust from the fan grates thinking it was overheating and powering down as to protect from overload but still no go.

I don't know if this is software or hardware related issue or if I picked up a virus. I've never seen or heard of this problem before and can't find any info on it.

If anybody has any information or suggestions please respond here or email me at stevethetemp@yahoo.com
