Q: Why isn't my TC pulling an IPv6 address from the AT&T Gateway?

Why isn't my TC 4th Gen pulling an IPv6 address from my AT&T NVG510 Gateway?  My iMac does and testing shows that I have native IPv6.

Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Gen), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Silly question: Did you configure IPv6 using Airport Utility?

Yes.  It is set to automatic.  Just like my iMac.  As I said before, the iMac gets the IPv6 address info; and, the TC does not.  I suspect the problem rests with the NVG510.

I'm assuming the Time Capsule is not being used as your router. You are using the cable modem as both gateway and router. In such a case the Time Capsule needs to be put into bridge mode. It will get an IP address from the network's router, not from AT&T. Your gateway will get the IPv6 address, not the Time Capsule.

To put the Time Capsule into bridge mode you set it up to Join and existing network, not Extend one.

The NVG510 is a flawed device..  My TC needs to handle the WiFi network, routing and address assignments on my network.  The steps to put the NVG510 in a pseudo bridge mode works for everything but IPv6.

Could you simply replace the NVG with the Time Capsule and a basic Gateway device (no routing capabilities?) If so that would be my suggestion.

I suppose if the NVG is in bridge mode then it cannot pass IPv6 addresses because it is not acting as a router. But it is acting as a gateway, so your local network would be operating with an IPv6 address from the ISP.

I assume by "flawed" you are saying it cannot be used normally while the Time Capsule is placed into bridge mode?

No - AT&T requires either the NVG510 or NVG589.  The 510 does not have a "Bridge" mode.  You configure it for IP Passthrough.  Ron Berman has a very good discussion on this is done.  What is missing is allowing IPv6 to "pass through"..  If it does, no one, as yet, has posted a solution.  That is the discussion I am looking for by this posting.

By flawed, the NVG510 cannot handle its WiFi and DNS responsibilities - this is also well documented.  It gets "confused" and drops service and cannot recover without restarting it.

This posting is looking for someone who has solved this IPv6 problem with the TC and NVG510.  So, please do not contribute without a proven solution.
