Can Video Files Be Written to CD-R Disks?

I'm at the beginning stage on burning to discs. According to the written specs and the "About this Mac" specs below, the iMac PPC G5 1.8GHz can save documents or other digital files to blank DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R Double Layer (DL) discs.

1) Should the iMac G5 Superdrive be able to handle 8.5MB (double sided, double density) DVDs?

2) Does that mean video files be burned and viewed on CD-R/700mb discs?

3) If I wanted to burn videos as I take them to a DVD-R or DVD+R disc, can the index file be updated with the newest videos or would I need to use a DVD+RW disc so the index file could be overwritten?

Thanks for the help!

1. Yes

2. No, you need to use a DVD

3. No. You need to import the video file into iMovie, edit it, then send it to iDVD to make a video DVD.

Excellent, Klause1. Thank you. Clarity is a gift. 😉

One clarification... Video files (mov, mp4, etc.) could be copied to a CD-R and stored, just as any other file format could be for storage. However, the vids could not be viewed by a CD or DVD player as videos. They would need to be opened by software on a computer that could read the specific video file format.
