Apple TV and DAC audio converter

I have all Apple products. I am trying to get stereo/audio from AppleTV to the DAC? The DAC line goes to an older Sony stereo receiver. Stereo will play through the TV and Uverse connection, but not when I switch over to AppleTV. I have followed some of the help guides with no results. I have also tried several different ways of hooking it up, and switching different settings? Anyone out there and audio head like me having trouble with Apple Tv to audio/stereo conversion? I am using HDMI connection to the TV. TV plays volume, but not the stereo. Apple TV audio (ITUNES) will play on my stereo across the house? I would prefer it to play on the stereo it is hooked up to if not both.

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.

If you are using a sound system/receiver, make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.

Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

I have tried several troubleshooting ideas on my own. I unplugged the optical cable from Apple TV and plugged it into the Panasonic TV. The TV/ATT Uverse played on the stereo fine through the DAC.

I have adjusted the Apple TV audio settings to 16bit and Auto. I also reset the box, restarted the box, and turned it off (plugging in the power cable, HDMI, and DAC as stated in some of the community posts).

As far as mapping, I have the audio cable plugged into the stereos "video" input slot (and it works for the TV/ ATT Uverse audio). I am concerned because the only reason I bought the DAC was for the Apple TV. My TV has audio outputs that play stereo.

Does your DAC support 48KHz audio.

Hmm that may be it. I looked at the specs. It says "supports up to 24 bit sound reproduction." So, I figured if I switched to 16bit in the audio settings I would be fine? Any suggestions are helpful. The one I purchased was the only DACI could find in a store?
