The A1385 charger supplies 5W and is meant for iPhones, the original iPad mini and iPods. I believe the iPad with retinal display uses a 10W charger. You can use a 10/12W charger on iPhones. The 5W charger, will charge the iPad mini w/retina display, but slowly.
Cheers, Tom 😉
As was mentioned, the 5W charger will charge the mini Retina but very slowly. It's best to use the 10W charger that came with the mini Retina. If you're looking to consolidate your chargers for travel (or otherwise), I would personally choose the 10W (or even the 12W if you have one) for all your devices.
BTW, the mini Retina does indeed come with the 10W charger (I have one)...but Apple no longer sells the 10W as a stand-alone charger. It's only available as the pack-in charger for the mini Retina. It's my feeling that the 10W has been discontinued (as far as being sold on it's own) and after supplies are depleted below a certain point, the mini Retina will likely come with the 12W charger as it's included charger.
Thank you for the clarification Texas Mac Man and SergZak. I appreciate your help. 🙂
