for every gmail I get now, my phone pops uo this little box that says mail message and I have to click read or dismiss....I cannot do anything else with my phone until I click read or dismiss on every single email! So if I get 70 new emails from the last time I checked my phone, I have to sit there and hit dismiss 70 times before I can do anything else.... HOW DO I TURN THIS FEATURE OFF!!!! Please Help! Thank You!!!!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like Mail app is set to use alert-style notifications, which require user interaction to dismiss. The other options are banners, which disappear after a few seconds, and none. You can learn more here:

You can view which apps provide notifications and adjust notification settings using Settings > Notification Center. For additional information, refer to the user guide for your device.
