6800 Ultra Mac Edition Graphics Card - Ghosting Effects ...

Hello There,

Could some kind soul please be so kind as to advise ...

Is it the end for my AGP 6800 ultra Mac Edition graphics card ?

The 6800 Ultra Mac Edition in my G5 2.0 Dual PPC running on 10.4.11 just behaved very oddly on start-up ! .... giving ghosting effects on the screen - I shut down ASAP and switched back to the original Mac Edition 9600 Ati - only to restart all working A OK without any ghosting.

Is this a common fault on the 6800 ultra ... or is the end ?

Hi again Pink,

Has the fan on it died, I think that's a common problem?

Thank you for your kind reply, much appreciated help and Mac expertise.

Not sure if the 6800s' fan has yet actually died ... perhaps it was just-in-the-process-of-doing-so ... as it was starting to get rather loud and warm ? ... the graphic card temp was 62˚C ?

A new fan ? ...

Is specialist job ? ... Or should it be a walk-in-the-park D.I.Y job ?
