Q: Lost Purchased Books w Upgrade

Was prompted (all but forced) to upgrade my iPad from ios4 something to ios7. In so doing, even while closely following the instructions for backing up and restoring, ALL of my purchased books were lost. There were books I had finished, books I was in the middle of, books I hadn't even started, yet. I can't be the only person this has happened to. Anyone?

    Hello mlredhed,

I would be concerned too if my purchased books were not appearing in iBooks after upgrading to iOS 7.

I'm not sure if you are currently signed into the iTunes & App Stores on your iPad, but I recommend signing in if you are not currently signed in and signing out and back in if you are signed in:

    Changing your Apple ID account

Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores, then tap the Apple ID signed in.

Sign out of the current Apple ID account and then sign in with another account or create a new Apple ID.

The last step states to sign in with another account, but for the situation you described, I recommend just signing in with your same Apple ID.

You can find the full article here:

Once you have completed this step, I recommend checking iBooks for your purchases.  If you are still not seeing your purchased books, try downloading them from your list of past purchases. Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Books" in the following article:

Downloading past purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store

Additionally, be sure to check for any updates that may be available for the iBooks app.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

    Sheila M.
