3rd gen ipod - fails to write to disk @ 80-86 songs

My 3rd gen 40gb ipod using a g4 powerbook 1.5gh regularly reports disk write failure when attempting to transfer songs from local library to the ipod.

i have tried manual drag n drop update.
i have tried full reformat.
i have tried repair / verify and nothing is wrong with the device.
i have even formatted and done a full auto synch update for 3500 songs and it always fails around the import of each 80th song.

anyone know how i can resolve this.

Click iTunes > Preferences
Set it to automatically update all songs and playlists
Select "only update checked songs"
Uncheck all songs between #80 and #90 (or wherever the failure seems to be)
See if you can update your iPod now.
If you can, than you know it's a problem with the song files, and you may want to restore them from a backup.

Alternatively, you could try restoring the iPod:
