Wifi icon won't appear! Do I need a airport to connect to my wifi? If so how do I enable it
PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Wifi icon won't appear.!

One issue could be WEP vs WPA security standards. I have a PB G4 that is almost 10 years old. A few years ago I set up a new wireless network and the PB would not join the network. I reinstalled the OS and later discovered the PB could not join the newer standard. ***** for me because I lost a lot of programs and info, even though I did a backup.

I believe he is refering to that he does not even see the Wi-Fi signal box on the top right to indicate he has any access to Wi-Fi, you may have no Airport Card in your computer, or it is dead. A systems test can tell you whether you're Airport Card works or not, its a easy $10 fix.
