Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with AirPlay on your iPhone 4. The following resource may provide a solution:
iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Ensure that you have followed the steps in using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring.
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon
, try one of the following steps:- If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay.
- Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
- Some content requires an Internet connection to authorize content playback. AirPlay capabilities may be limited if your network is not connected to the Internet.
- If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).
Thanks,
Matt M.

Feb 25, 2014 4:40 AM in response to matt00by ravyshankar,Hi Matt,
I've an iPhone5S, macbook pro and an apple TV. They are all connected to Asus RTN56U router. I am trying to airplay from iPhone but I dont even find the airplay icon in the control center. I can airplay fine from mac to the TV but iPhone is giving me a real hard time.
I did have some custom router setting on the Asus I had but then I removed them after I read the articles below.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215 - iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 - Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
Event without the recomended settings, mac was able to airplay fine earlier. Right now, I dont have any custom settings on my router. I still dont find the Airplay icon in the control center. All these devices is on 5GHz wireless network.
I did reboot all the devices & powered them back one by one inorder below.
1. Router
2. Apple TV
3. iPhone.
I still couldnt find the Airplay icon.
I found this KB where it lists the ports that is used by Airplay and tried to portscan from mac to apple TV.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629 - Well known ports used by Apple products.
Port scan showed up 4 ports that can communicate fine to Apple TV's IP address, out of the 4 ports, TCP 3689 is relevant for Airplay. This made me think, the router is blocking some ports. But then, if ports are blocked. my mac should have the problem too. I can airplay fine from mac. (wired or wireless)
My wife also has an iPhone and she has the same issue too. Can someone please help? I am running out of ideas and troubleshooting steps. I am sure if I call up Apple, they would blame Asus and if I go to Asus, they would blame Apple. At the end of the day, I would go ping-pong between them.
Many Thanks in Advance,
Ravi
