Matte display options for Mac Book Pro Retina ?

I've checked on Apple website for a Mac Book pro retina with matte display.

Nothing so far.

What options do we have to get a matte display ?

Has anyone tested 3-rd party matte display protectors ? Are they worth the money ?

Question for Apple designers ? Are we going for fashion or production?

How about both ?

I am a professional photographer and glossy display is out of the question.

I love iPhone and iPad. I can bypass the glossy part on them but not on a laptop. In past 25 years I have used only PC's.

For much less than 2500+ $ I can get an awesome non-apple notebook.

Make me decide.

I give you 3 months. I am serious.

Have you actually used or looked at a MBPR?

Yes, why?

I am an amateur photographer and I used to hate my previous 13" MB Uniboby for it's glossy screen. I now have a MBPR 15" and the anti-reflective coating is very effective. The difference compared to my previous machine is dramatic.

Have you actually read this thread? I responded to one of the OP's questions, then gave him an option for one of the last anti-glare refurb MBPs Apple will likely be selling. I can't stand glossy either. So I'm not sure what your point is.

i had a late 2013 15" rMBP and when compared to my 2010 15" MBP (glossy, non hi-res), the rMBP is much much more matte-like than prior MBPs. I really liked the rMBP screen b/c it wasn't as glossy and I felt the pictures were more similar to real life - but that's just my personal opinion.

I'd say the rMBP screen is very similar to the MBA in that they don't seem to be as glossy (a good thing to me).

I have left a feedback on apple's site.

Thank you for the idea. I was looking for this.

Has anyone tried a matte display shield ?

Is it worth the money ?

I've seen this on Apple store:

Moshi 15" iVisor Pro Matte Screen Protector for MacBook Pro with Retina Display

I have received the Moshi iVision 15'' and installed today.

Result: satisfactory

Reflection is reduced with 50% or more.

Screen protector is still a little glossy which is necessary for this type of display.

Reflection grains are very small. Texture is soft.

Sticky side is only on the black part.

Installation is pretty hard.

Here are 2 factors that makes it hard:

1. The screen protector is smaller than the display area with about 2 mm bottom side and 1.5 mm on the sides.

If you arrange nicely the screen protector on the left it will look ugly on the right.

Centering the protector will take you time and together with time you get lint. A lot of it.

I used to clean the display with water and hand sanitizer.

To remove the lint from the sticky side I've used to tap that section with a piece of scotch tape.

2. Lint in the air

Accesories that come with it are:

1 piece of cheap carboard that suppose to be used for arranging the screen protector

1 piece of cloth for cleaning the display - pretty good quality

What it should have to be better:

1. Tape for removing the lint on the sticky side

2. A better quality card for arranging the screen protector

3. For such a big surface you would need an antistatic wet tissue that should come beside the provided cloth.

If I would recomend this to somebody ? Yes.

Only if you can take the time and patience to install it.

I just got a brand new fully souped up MBP 15", after reluctantly resigning to the idea that 17" was really over with, and here I am sitting in Paris airport, unable to watch movies because I see my own relfection in the screen. I remeber pre-retina, when you could chose between matte and gloss screen... and sure wish that had been an option. I work outdoors a lot and am going to have to get some sort of contraption like the Moshi 15" -- which should be the case. It's a laptop - USE ANYWHERE except perhaps in direct sunlight!
