Undo doesn't move back automation

Hi there,

I recently upgraded from Logic Pro 8 to Logic Pro X, and I am having trouble with the program's Undo function.

When I move my audio files around in the Arrange window, I often click yes to moving the automation with it. If I'm not happy with the move, and want the audio file and its automation to move back into the original position, I hit command-z (Undo). The audio files move back into position fine, but 70% of the time, the automation doesn't follow, and remains in the new position.

In Logic 8, I had no problem with this.

Does anyone know how to fix it? It is quite frustrating, especially when I've made time-consuming volume automation to line up with particular events in the audio file.

Thanks,

Melanie

Well, I'm sorry but it does work over here on three different machines and I also can't recall post on the forum about your issue except for situations where preferences as mentioned in my first mail where not met.

The test:

User uploaded file

....I move the region......

User uploaded file

....I then confirm.....

User uploaded file

.....as expected....

User uploaded file

.....and after hitting ctrl z I'm back to where the region was prior to the region move.

I remember your issue from Logic 9, there it was something the Undo History initiated somehow as it grew in size. After emptying the buffer, usually all was back to normal again.

Cheers!

Just because it is working in your session, does not mean it is working in mine. It's almost as though you're telling me that I'm imagining the error.

I have already cleaned out the Undo History. Additionally, the same thing happens if I set the Automation preference to "Always" move with the region.

kcstudio, please don't bother writing back unless you actually have some suggestions as to how I might be able to resolve the issue. I don't need you to just point out that you're not having the same problem. It is not helpful.

So I've just been fiddling around, trying to figure out why sometimes it does work, and other times it doesn't.

It turns out that the error only happens when I move multiple regions at once. They move together at first, but do not move back with Undo.

Anyone know how to fix this? I didn't have the same problem with Logic 8 - it always worked fine when Undo-ing a multiple region move. I know I can merge the regions to become their own audio file, but I am still in the process of editing and so would prefer to keep them separate (so I can work on cross fades, and see where the changes are).

Hope someone has a solution for me!

Actually, KC's comment was helpful because it tells you, it is something speceific to what you are doing... rather than a general issue that affects everyone in every case... and as you found out later... it helped you realise it is only when you move multiple regions..

I've tested it a few more times times and am still finding the same problem.

It's not whether the automation moves WITH the region at the time of moving - I know how to hit "Allow", and it works. The problem is that the automation doesn't follow the region and return to its original position when I hit "Undo". The automation remains in its new position and the audio region returns to its original position.

I don't necessarily want to attach/lock the automation to the region either, as I am in the process of editing.

I'm pretty sure my version is the laziest! Just dragging a region/section of audio over another creates the volume automation fades for me. Saves so much time! You can fine-tune fades later on in the editing process, too.

Anyway, I hope I can find a way to make it work with the X-Fade function. For now I've set simple one-key commands for changing between the "Overlap" and "X-Fade" Drag modes. I'd prefer to not have to do it this way, though.
