My airport express seems totally useless.

Hello,

I am trying desperately to set up the airport express but does it have to be connected to ethernet all the time? That seems stupid to me. I thought we could connect to the current wireless network and then it would boost the signal. Is that not the purpose of the Airport Express? So much for "plug and play." I think I will just return it as it seems really annoying. Even when we had it plugged into the router the new wifi it created is not even as good as the other one. Any help on this would be a great help. My main question is: is it possible to connect wirelessly to boost the signal in an area of the house that does not have as strog as wifi?

Thanks

Is the wireless network that you are trying to "boost" with the AirPort Express provided by another AirPort base station (Express, Extreme, or Time Capsule)? If so, you can use the Express to extend it. If not, then you won't be able to as they would be incompatible for this purpose if the connection between them will be wireless.

Check out the following Apple Support article for details on extending an AirPort-based network.
