Q: Aperture 3.5.1 on OSX Maverick

After upgrading to Mavrick and Aperture 3.5.1 on my iMac.  Aperture launches fine but I only have limited 'Preferences' choices "General".  Where are the rest?

There may be a problem with your Preferences file:

Quit Aperture and move the file  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist   from your Userlibrary in your Home folder to the Trash.

Log off and on and try again to start Aperture.

See this link Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics on how to remove the preferences.

    Hi Leonie,

Thanks for the reply.  I tried what you suggested and it didn't work.  Here is what I did

    - 'rm' the Aperture.plist.

    - Log in/out

    - Launch Aperture (It did recreate the Aperture.plist file)

I also tried reboot the iMac. same result.

    Regards,

    Minh

    Minh,

Then quit Aperture again and remove also Aperture's Caches from your User Library:

    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Aperture/fsCachedData/

and the mirrored files in "Containers".

    ~/Library/Containers/Aperture

Restart the computer and try again.

If all that does not help, reinstall Aperture.

    • Move the application to the trash, but don't empty the Trash.
    • Sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and install Aperture again from the Purchased tab.

    Léonie,

After trying both your suggestions, it's not resolving the issue.  I want to mention this, not sure if it matters.  My Aperture library is located in an attached external thunderbolt HDD.

This starts to look like a system-wide problem, and not something caused by settings in your user account. Please check, if Aperture's preferences panel is looking o.k., if you launch Aperture from a different user account. Enable the Guest Account in the "Users&Groups" System Preferences, or add a new account for testing, and then sign in as adifferent user and launch Aperture. Is the preferences panel correct when signed in as a different user?

    Léonie,

I finally able to try to test what you've suggested.  I logged into one of my children's account and launch Aperture.  All the preference setttings are showing in their accounts but not mine.  I've to now figure out what is in my user's profile that is causing this.

After discovering something is wrong with my User's account, I used this page as my guide to resolve my issue.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3805

I did the following steps based on the guide.

    - Delete the user preferences

    - Move the user created presets, keyword lists, and so on...

    - Restarted my computer

    - Launch Aperture.  I had an old copy of my Aperture library which is pre-3.5 and Aperture proceeded to upgrade that library.

    - I selected the upgraded Aperture library I want to use in my external HDD.

All my preferences show up now.
