system clock slow

I am having an issue where the clock on my Macbook Pro is slower than all my devices. I have it set to set time automatically, but it first starts at one minute slower than my other devices, and then progressively slows down from there. I can fix this temporarily by going into the date and time pain of system preferences, where it seems to sync, but it eventually slows down again. I have tried resetting pram, but I wonder if something is wrong with my battery. I read somewhere that if internal settings on a portable computer don't work correctly, the computer's battery may need to be changed. Could this be the cause?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

I have the same problem on my 2009 Mac mini. I replaced the battery but it is still running slow.

I'm guessing incorrect system clock may also be the cause of my time machine backups(network to airport extreme) going bad constantly on this machine, I have two other macs that are backing up to it fine(those two are older ones that are not running 10.9 and have no clock issues)
