I have been trying to access the line in socket on my new (2013 retina) macbook pro. Followed the online advice and from the apple menu I am accessing system preferences then "sound" There is no option to change from "internal microphone" mentioned in the online help.

To be honest (and I may be wrong) I believe that the ability to switch the line out to a line in port has been discontinued on the newer 13" Retina models (and even the newer 13" models).
I could be wrong - I don't have a 13" BP - but I do believe that's the way it is now.

Just been trying my USB audio interface (miditec) and same result with that, no option to switch audio input
Now, as I understand it, USB devices should work... just not the single line-in jack.
Maybe someone with a newer 13" model will see this thread and reply definitively.
