I'm trying to group my notes. I don't want to have to add another app and then transfer all the data and sync it to icloud. Are there any other features on the original notepad app?

No, grouping is not an available feature in eh native nots app, but there are numertous note taking apps in the app store, many will permit that.

Yes, but can they be synced with the cloud to share on different devices?
If you mean the third party apps, no, not through iCloud, but this can be done via other cloud services and through specific accounts (Evernote comes to mind).
If you use Mac computers you can create folders and organize notes using the Notes app in OS X (not sure what version is needed) on the computer. These folders will sync over to your other devices although will not appear on the web based iCloud app. Once these folders sync over to an iOS device you will see a "Folders" button at the top of the iOS app were you can choose all or one folder. You can create new notes in the individual folders on the iDevice but you will have to use the computer to move notes between folders.
In Notes in OS X on the computer you may need to select the View/Show Folders List to help.
