Can you hide "settings"?

Okay, I'd like some ideas. I gave my mom (75) an iPhone for Christmas last year. She likes it, but struggles with learning the operating system. I won't be seeing her for a couple of weeks, but she sent me an email with the following, "when I downloaded the new home page, my settings disappeared". So, I assume what she means is, when the iPhone updated to IOS 7. Now, I know you can't remove the settings icon, but is there some way she could have hidden it? My wife saw her a few weeks ago, and said she couldn't find the "settings" icon either, knowing that it must be there. She had Siri, find it, but couldn't find the icon. So my question is, is there some way to "hide" an icon? Is there some way to have the phone "show me" where the icon for an app is?

My guess would be that she somehow grouped the Settings App with another App, or placed it in an existing group. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think it's possible to actually hide the Settings App from appearing at all.

I'm not sure there's any way to be able to find the location of the App but I would suggest scouring the iPhone systematically and checking all groups.

If you get her to swipe down from the center of the home page to open the Search page, if she types in Settings, it should show the Settings App, and if it is in a folder, that folder name will appear to the right of Settings. Then go to that folder and either use it, or have it hold until it wiggles and remove it from the folder and put back on the home page.
