Airport Extreme no valid IP address, no DNS addresses

I have Uverse. I've disabled the wireless feature of the gateway and wired into my airport. I've created a network, and I have all my deviced connected to it. Everything was working fine. Then one day it started losing connectivity everyday. The light was green, but no internet access for the network. A quick restart would fix the problem. Now the light stays amber, and I get two problems: no valid IP, no DNS addresses. Please help.

What model is your AE?

Reset to factory and setup again.

Some of the new AC models are having real issues with either wireless or the WAN port connection.

The TC should be in bridge in this setup.. is that how you have it??

It sounds like you have it in router mode which would be wrong unless you have done more than turn off wireless in the uverse.

why do other questions get a response within an hour or so and I don't get one for 9 days?

Apple staff are supposed to answer posts not answered within 24hours.. Your question is perhaps to specific or too embarrassing.

This discussion area can roll over so quickly. A few hours on the front page is all you have.. it is quite legit to bump a post after 24hours.

And sorry but we just miss things.

I have also recently seen the utility telling me the WAN port is not plugged in, even though it was

Something happened that wasn't good at 7.6.4 firmware.. roll back to 7.6.1 factory reset again and see if that helps.

Firmware update is easy on the v6 utility.. (yeah something works right on it!!)

Hold down the option key when you click on version.. all possible versions for that model will pop up. Including downgrades.. so called.

If it works better than the upgrade then the upgrade is to downgrade.

Full factory reset.

This is for TC but same applies to Gen1-5 AE.

The Factory Reset Gen1-4.

Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.

Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.

TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.

No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

I rolled back to 7.6.3 and it worked for 20 min.

I didn't know the 20min was bad.. I thought you tested for 20min and it worked fine.

If it has failed again.. try again to roll back to 7.6.1

There is no A1409 that cannot roll back to at least that.

Click on the other and see.

Do another factory reset and try setup again.

If nothing works it is possible the AE is faulty.

But you really need to test it with a mac to be sure.. windows has its own problems more numerous and difficult to fix.. like it can suddenly decide it is in a public area and slam up the firewall, cutting off local connections.. or driver issues with the network port.

I just wanted to add what Apple Support walked me through. Worked perfectly. Similar to some of the posts here. This assumes you have finished the setup of the Airport using DHCP to obtain the IP automatically from Comcast and it says the IP is invalid.

Power off\on Sequence

1, Power off Comcast Modem. Remove Battery back up, if it has one. Disconnect the coax cable.

  1. 2. Power off Airport Extreme
  2. 3. Let both sit for 3 minutes.
  3. 4. Reconnect coax cable to Comcast modem and replace battery and power up.
  4. 5. Wait a minute or two to make sure the Comcast modem is completely up and then Power on the Airport Extreme.

(When AP asks for DNS, Type in both addresses below)

Freyfisher: I had the same problem whenn I switched to the Airport Extreme yesterday. Here is what I did:

1: uplugged modem for 30 sec. and detached all ethernet cables. Plugged back in and reattached airport extreme cable after all lights were solid on the modem. Then, I went into Airport Utility and selected, "Base Station"> "restore default settings". Then" Base Station"> Restart. Then go through setup assistant again. If no luck, try setting IPv4 to 10.0.1.2, subnet to 255.255.255.0, router to 10.0.1.1. IPv6 set to OFF if having trouble. DNS adresses: 75.75.75.75, 75.75.76.76, search domain hsd1.ST.comcast.net where "ST" is your two-letter State abbrev. Hope this helps someone....

Alright, I had been having some issues with my Airport Extreme 5th Generation (A1408).

Originally, needed to get a new cable modem (that was Problem #1). I fixed that problem.

Then I was having a heck of time getting my AE back on-line, both connected to the computer and to the Internet.

The instructions above were the only thing that helped.

So here's what I did:

1. Downgraded Firmware to 7.6.3 (next lower version I had available, didn't have 7.6.1 like others suggested)

2. Once AE restarted, I saw that I had new options/ip addresses that I hadn't been getting before. However, I still wasn't able to connect to the Internet. So, followed the further instructions.

3. Unplugged power from Airport Express.

4. Unplugged Ethernet from Airport Express.

5. Unplugged power from cable modem.

6. Unplugged Ethernet from cable modem.

7. Unscrewed coax cable from cable modem.

8. Waited roughly 2-3 minutes. Screwed back in coax cable into cable modem.

9. Plugged power back into cable modem. Waited for all lights to come back on showing good signal.

10. Plugged Ethernet cable into cable modem.

11. Plugged Ethernet cable into Airport Express.

12. Plugged power back into Airport Express.

Everything started up fine and I was now connected to the Internet!
