How do I disconnect my credit card from my account?

Hi Apple Support Communities,

I have had an iTunes account for, I believe, just a little more than a year now. From the beginning I have never connected or registered a credit card to my account. Everything I have purchased in the past has been through iTunes gift cards. I am 14 years old so I don't have a credit card in the first place.

Recently I discovered that even though I was sure I had run out of gift card money I could still buy apps and music. Of course, I gleefully seized the opportunity to buy some more games and apps. But now I am very confused and nervous and I checked my settings in iTunes. Sure enough, my Mom's credit card was labeled in the payments section. I know I put my Mom's credit card information but I specifically made sure the credit card was not being used and my gift card money was being used.

How do I get rid of the credit card in the iTunes records? I owe my Mom about $15 and I sure don't want this amount to increase.

Thanks,

Hi Likeawhisper,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

You can use the steps below to change the payment type on your iTunes Store account to "None," which will remove the credit card on file.

Changing your payment information using a computer:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Choose Store > Sign In.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In.
  4. Choose Store > View Account.
  5. Enter your account password and click View Account.
  6. From the Apple Account Information page, click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
Note: You can find the payment methods that the iTunes Store accepts in the Payment Type section. If you don't want a payment method on your account, select None in the Payment Type section.
  7. Click the Done button after you've updated all of your information.

You can find the article with these steps (for iOS as well as a computer), at this link:

Thanks for the reply.

I now have a different error. My mom's credit card, which I use for my iTunes account, experienced a minor fraud error from someone who apparently used it in Tokyo, Japan, even though we had not visited there for ten years. My mom's new credit card is expected in a few days, but I'm not sure how to still cancel a credit card in my account. Now it asks me to enter a new credit card. Here is a screenshot:

I deleted some information that was previously there because, obviously, this is the internet we are using. But I had the last four digits of my mom's credit card, my title, full name, and other billing information in the boxes.

Notice that white box with red font at the right. I guess the "get rid of credit card" button is supposed to be there but I can't do anything. Until my mom's new credit card comes I guess I can't purchase anything.

I put a Notepad window over my email for privacy purposes.

Is there still a way to cancel the credit card even though this thing keeps coming up?

Thanks,

Likeawhisper
